After viewing all of the
information from the videos and the lecture and the chapters, I will be able to
protect myself and become a better consumer in the future because I will be
aware. I now know the options I have for
protection if I do fall for false advertising, but hopefully that will not even
be needed because I have learned so much about the false marketing. I will see
the signs and the puffery from the beginning.
I will know not to believe outrageous claims and look for scientific
evidence on how products work and how reliable/healthy/healing they are. It was
nice to read the discussion posts because everyone had different ideas about
the topics and there were some helpful articles included as well that were
helpful to understanding the topics. I personally liked learning from what
others commented on my post about how advertising will change and if
commercials will become obsolete. There are many articles that speak of this
topic and also of how ads are more popular elsewhere such as on the internet.
Here are some links that helped me
throughout this module that I and others found throughout the discussions:
I will definitely take what I
learned about sensory appealing advertisements in this module with me in the
future. After going through this module, I realize this is something I have
fallen for quite a bit and I really hope to change that in the future. I need
to be more careful with where I am spending my money and make sure I am buying
products that are actually useful or that actually taste good. Within the
entire course, I will take most of it with me. Even from the first chapter when
we learned about hoe the grocery store is set up I was able to apply this class
to my daily living. For me, this class has meant much reflecting on who I am as
a consumer and how I need to change. I do believe since the beginning of the
semester I have become a better consumer. I cannot say that is very hard since
as soon as this class started I realized what a bad consumer I truly was.
I truly enjoyed the discussions. By
having to make up questions it gave a good basis for the discussions. When just
posting statements it can be hard to know how to respond. I thought they were
set up very well. I also really liked how each of the posts were due on
different days. It set a nice pace for the course and kept people involved the
whole module. It was impossible to just do all of the work on the last day
which is so important because it is so easy for those kinds of things to happen.
I feel like much more is learned when students are not rushing to finish all of
the work on the last day of the module.
I found some of the discussions to
be challenging because sometimes I was stumped on what question to ask, but
they were also my favorite thing because I liked that they were challenging. It
really made me think and helped me to understand the chapters and lecture notes
much better than I would have otherwise. I really liked the lecture notes. I
enjoyed that they were made with Prezi and not PowerPoint just because it was
something different. Seeing the same thing all the time can become monotonous.
I also really liked that your voice was recorded on there. It felt like I was
in a classroom. None of my other classes this semester had any recordings. With
having things be focused only on reading, it can get a little old, especially
when you are a full time online student. I really enjoyed this class and I
think I learned more about how to live my life than I have from any other
course. I am glad to have taken this course and I know I will take it with me
in the future.
